Reviews of El Faro 106   Great location, but... Reviewed by Family of 5 on 4/7/2010 The location is perfect-just a couple of blocks from 5th avenue shopping & restaurants. The beach is well groomed & the lounge chairs & umbrellas are set up each morning & taken down each night. The pool is beautiful (but they must use different chemicals than in the US...the water reacted with our sunscreen (the typical Coppertone Sport) & turned the sunscreen green as well as the white fabrics in our swimsuits!). Thankfully, the green washes off in the shower, but the swimsuits are still stained after multiple washings back home.
RE: unit 106...it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. It's well-appointed with decorations & furniture; almost too personalized & homey. Rather than feeling like we were staying at a resort/hotel, it felt like we were staying in someone's home...using THEIR things, sleeping in THEIR bed, seeing pictures of the owner & his dog. It just felt a little weird to us...but, we prefer to feel like we're at a resort rather than a stranger's house. Also, it's DARK...very little light comes through the windows. And we were constantly fighting mosquitoes INSIDE the condo...couldn't figure out where they were coming from (we were diligent about leaving the doors & windows closed at all times). We had stayed in a second-floor unit earlier in the week, and had no problems with mosquitoes. It should be noted that there was no dishwasher installed. There was a washing machine in the unit but no dryer. Odd. The service from the property managers was polite, but we felt like we were imposing when asking questions. I highly recommend NOT getting a massage at the pool area (they re-use the towels between clients).
The pro's: it's a brand new property in a great location.
The con's: kinks to work out by the property mgmt group (pest control; dishwashers; pool; turn on the fountains that are installed outside; NO WORKOUT ROOM - contrary to what's advertised...we lugged clothes & shoes for nothing). stay. Tonya Sarine at Playa Condo Rentals was very helpful finding us a
Condo that suited our needs.
Let me start by explaining my rating process, we have traveled all over the
world and are not liberal in giving out 5 star reviews as there are few places
that truly deserve 5 stars, the Fourseasons Bora Bora and George V in Paris
are five star resorts. We do not go to Mexico for 5 star resorts, we go for 5
star fun. If you go to Mexico expecting world class service and attention you
will be extremely disappointed.
El Faro unit 106 was a clean 2 bedroom unit with all the necessities we
required, fully equipped kitchen, washing machine, wireless internet and free
North American phone calls. Conveniently located on the ground floor with
lots of outdoor furniture and direct access to the pool and beach area.
The Staff: Friendly and able to accommodate all of our needs.
The Beach: Beautiful silky white sandy beach with ample lounge chairs
for all guest.
The Pool: Clean and well maintained with ample Lounge chairs.
The Restaurant: Wicky's is probably the best dining in Playa DelCarmen,
from a casual breakfast or lunch on the beach, around
the pool or inside the air conditioned Dining Room to fine
dining in the evening. Friendly staff, wonderful service and
excellent food.
The Location: Conveniently located on the beach in the center of Playa,
one block from vibrant 5th Avenue with great local
restaurants, entertainment and shopping.
